I can’t believe I missed this one; Grrlscientist has a story on leopards that wound up in villages lured into cages with ringtones that sounded like livestock. Truth be told, leopards are a problem in the slums of Mumbai (formerly Bombay), where stray dogs are often devoured by the cats (in addition to unfortunate fatalities involving children and the poor). This reminds me of a post I intended to write on asiatic lions and “man-eaters” in India, but I have a bit more reference collecting to do before I can put that one up. If you can’t wait, check out David Quammen’s Monster of God; not his best work, but still informative.
